VANESSA MARCOTTE’S ASSAILANT ADMITS GUILT
AND ACCEPTS PLEA
October 26, 2022—Vanessa Marcotte was killed over six years ago by an act of violence in Princeton, MA on August 7, 2016. She was 27 years old at the time of her death and was attacked while taking a walk near her family home. Today, there was an admission of guilt by her murderer during a plea hearing. The office of District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. can comment on the sentencing.
The family and the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation, founded in her name, are thankful and gratified the legal process has accomplished what they wished for: that Vanessa’s killer will now be in a place where he can’t hurt anyone else the way he hurt Vanessa.
The Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation was established in 2017 in Vanessa’s honor. Since its inception, it has trained thousands of women at self-defense workshops. It has also educated individuals of all ages at workshops and webinars on violence prevention, runner safety, boundary setting, and healthy relationships. It also funds youth programs that address the root causes of violence. Their website, vtmf.org, is a frequently visited destination for safety content. The foundation is a 501c3 public charity and depends on private donations which can be made on their website.
Vanessa loved to run, therefore many of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts revolve around running. Their most critical fundraiser is their annual 5K Run/Walk each June. Additionally, the Foundation has charity teams for the Boston Marathon, New York City Marathon, New York City Half Marathon, and Falmouth Road Race.
“Every 68 seconds a person is assaulted in the United States, and one in ten girls have experienced harassment,” said Caroline Tocci and Ashley McNiff, co-founders of the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation. “Vanessa would have wanted us to take action. She’d be proud of what we’re accomplishing in her honor to make the world a safer place.”
