The killings of two young women while doing something as innocent as running outdoors have sparked fear and outrage.
More than 1,000 runners and walkers participated in the 2nd Annual Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation 5K Race at Wachusett Mountain on Saturday, June 16.
More than 1,000 runners, walkers and community members gathered at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, Massachusetts to participate in the 10 a.m. event, which had seen tremendous success in its inaugural year.
On June 16, the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation will hold its second annual 5K run and walk.

More than 300 women are coming together at Boston University this weekend to learn about self-defense in honor of Vanessa Marcotte, a graduate of BU.
“She would want more than anything for us to raise awareness and, if we can, prevent this from happening to anyone else.”
The Vanessa Marcotte Foundation, a nonprofit that advocates for a world where women live boldly and fearlessly, will hold its first self-defense and empowerment workshop – STRIKE for Vanessa – in January 2018.
Vanessa Marcotte would have turned 28 next Saturday. While there will be tears and questions and sadness, there will also be hope and determination, as hundreds of pumping hearts will pound the pavement not far from where she died.
